- Duffy, Carol Ann
- (1955- )Born in Glasgow, she was brought up and educated in Stafford. After graduating from Liverpool University in 1977, she worked for Granada Television before becoming a freelance writer in London. From 1982 to 1984 she worked in East End schools on a C. Day Lewis Fellowship. In 1996 she started lecturing in poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her plays have been performed at the Liverpool Playhouse and the Almeida Theatre in London. She became a commander of the British Empire in 2002 and a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1999. She won the Eric Gregory Award, 1984, the Dylan Thomas Award, 1989, the Cholmondeley Award, and the Lannan Literary Award from the Lannan Foundation (USA), 1995.
